Testing Services

Office of the University Registrar Testing Services functions primarily to facilitate transitions to and within the University by providing university course placement exams, exams for course credit, exams to meet graduation requirements, as well as professional and correspondence exams for the community.

  • Note: Illinois State University no longer administers the GRE, GMAT, LSAT effective June 2019. We will administer our last ACT exam on July 13, 2019.

Due to contractual obligations, we have a limited number of seats available in our testing space.

Exams should be scheduled in advance. Walk-ins are not preferred as seats may not be available in our testing space, and we may not have the appropriate materials needed for your exam.

Exams will be scheduled on a first come-first served basis.

To schedule an exam:

On-Campus Departments & Off-Campus/Community - please submit the Exam Request Form with required exam documents attached.

ISU Students - please contact your instructor or department for further information.

Identification Requirement

All examinees are required to present a government issued, valid photo ID (driver's license, passport, Military ID) or Illinois State University Redbird ID card before testing. Depending on the type of exam, two forms of ID may be required and/or a photo may be taken at check-in.

Testing Restrictions

No items are allowed in the testing space other than what is approved on the Exam Request Form. Individuals checking-in for an exam will be asked to remove any hats/visors/headbands, remove all items from pockets, and place all items including phone, purse/wallet, etc. into small lockers available, prior to entering the testing space. We request that backpacks are not brought to the Testing Center as we have limited space and they do not fit in the lockers.

Monitoring During Testing

To ensure compliance, cameras are in use in the testing space as well as the check-in area to monitor examinees. We also have a one-way window between the check-in area and the testing space.
