Math Placement

Initial math placement should be discussed with your academic advisor and will use the one of the following criteria:

Test or College Credit: Placement based on transfer credit or AP/CLEP/IB credit.

High School Math: Last high school math class taken by the student, the grade in the course, and when it was taken using the following chart for initial placement.

Academic year of most recent high-school math class with grade of C or higher.

ACT/SAT Score: Students who do not have the above information or whose relevant SAT or ACT Math scores indicate higher placement should be placed using the following chart:

Placement Exam: Students with none of the above should take the ALEKS math placement exam.

ALEKS Score cutoffs for placement are as follows:

Information about the ALEKS exam, and registering to complete it, is available online.

Once a students earns a grade of A, B, C, D, F, or WX in a MAT course (or is currently enrolled in a MAT course after the third-week drop deadline), they are not eligible to take the ALEKS exam to improve their placement.
