Registration Information

Fall 2026 Registration Dates and Process

Registration is now open. If you have not made an appointment with your academic advisor to discuss your fall courses, schedule an appointment via My.IllinoisState.edu. 

You can register or make changes to your schedule any time by clicking on the Register for Classes link found under the Academics tab in My.IllinoisState.edu. Beginning August 22, students will need a closed class override from the department offering the course to add or switch sections of a course. Fall registration concludes at 10 p.m. on Friday, August 28.

Summer 2026 Registration Dates and Process

Registration is now open and will end at 10 p.m., Monday, May 18. To register for a course after May 18, please fill out the Late Registration Request Form in My.IllinoisState.edu. Students can also come in person to Moulton 107 with a photo ID to add courses.

Spring 2026 Registration Dates and Process

Spring registration is now closed. To register for a course after January 26, fill out the Late Registration Request Form in My.IllinoisState.edu. Students can also come in person to 107 Moulton Hall with a photo ID to add course(s) to their scheules.

Winter Session

Illinois State University offers online accelerated Winter Session classes to students. To register for a Winter session course, current students must be in good academic standing (minimum 2.0 GPA). Students admitted for the preceding Fall term or upcoming Spring term qualify for Winter session enrollment. Students are limited to registering for one class per Winter session. There is no priority registration for Winter session. Credit hours taken during the Winter session will be applied to the spring semester's total academic load. To drop or withdraw from a Winter session course after the start of classes, please email Registrar@IllinoisState.edu with your request. Grades are posted at the conclusion of the Winter session.

Before you can register for classes, you need to meet with an advisor.

Know Your Registration Time

To view your registration time:

  1. Log in to My.IllinoisState.edu
  2. Select Academics
  3. Scroll to Registration Times

Clear Holds on Your Account

You cannot register if there are holds on your account. To remove them:

  1. Log in to My.IllinoisState.edu
  2. Scroll to Account Notifications
  3. Select Holds, To Do, or Tasks
  4. Complete the listed items

Access Advising Notes

To view your advising notes:

  1. Log in to My.IllinoisState.edu
  2. Select Student Center
  3. Select Advising/Academic Progress 
  4. Select Advising the Planning 
  5. Select My Advising Notes

Get the Courses You Need

Courses are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We recommend registering as soon as you can.

Some courses have multiple sections offered at different times and locations. If one section is full or doesn't work with your schedule, check for more offerings.

Course Permit (Override) Request

Some classes might require permission from the department/school for you to enroll.
To make a request:

  1. Log in to My.IllinoisState.edu
  2. Select Academics
  3. Scroll to Registration
  4. Select Course Permit (Override)

You'll be informed by email if your request is granted.

After You Register

  • Drop a Course

    If you register for a course and decide you don't want to take it, you can drop the course or swap it with another one during the online registration period.

    1. Log in to My.IllinoisState.edu
    2. Select Academics
    3. Scroll to Registration
    4. Select Register for Classes
    5. Select Drop Classes

    Check the academic calendar for drop/add deadlines.
