Receiving Your Diploma

Official graduation from Illinois State happens after grades are posted and you fulfill all your degree requirements after a final graduation audit.

Diplomas are not distributed at the commencement ceremony. You'll receive your diploma in the mail 10 to 12 weeks after you officially graduate. Diplomas are mailed to the address that you provide on your graduation application.

Notarized Diploma or Transcript

If you want your diploma or transcript notarized, let us know on the Comments line on the form. There is no fee for this service.

Apostille

If you want the notarized copies of your diploma or transcript to also include an Apostille, include the following on your form:

  • A completed Application for Authentication or Apostille Certifying Documents for Foreign Use stating the country to which the Apostille will be sent
  • Check or money order payable to the Illinois Secretary of State. Payment should include $2 per document needing Apostille (Note: We always notarize two copies of your diploma)
  • A pre-addressed (to you or a third-party), postage-paid envelope that the Secretary of State will use to mail the notarized diplomas or transcripts with attached Apostilles

We will forward these items, along with the two notarized copies of your diploma, to the Illinois Secretary of State Office. They will attach the Apostille and mail the documents using the pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope you provide.

Visit the Illinois Secretary of State Office's guide for more information on certifying official documents for foreign use.
