Final Exam Information

Fall Semester: Information posted mid-August. 
Spring Semester: Information posted mid-January.
Summer Semester:  Final exams take place the last day of class.

Success Week- Final exams and/or tests that amount to more than 10% of the course grade cannot be given during Success Week. Please see the policy for more information on Success Week. 

Exam Exceptions:

• Online Courses- Fully Online courses must have online final exams. In-person exams are not allowed for online sections.  
• Combined/Common Exams- Some exams do not follow the guidelines in the chart. These exams are created separately and will be posted to the students MyIllinoisState portal.  Below are some examples of combined/common exams.
  • IT 168
  • MAT 108, 113, 119, 120, 121, 130, 145, 152
  • Select SED, SWK, NUR classes 

       Instructor Requests:

• • Instructors should notify the Registrar’s office if they have an exam scheduled but will not need it.  It is important that the Registrar’s office has an accurate final exam schedule available in case of building or campus emergency. Please email academicscheduling@ilstu.edu to remove your final exam as soon as possible. 
  • Instructors may request a change to their final exam date/time if there are extenuating circumstances.  Email academicscheduling@ilstu.edu with exam change requests, taking into consideration the following:
    • Department Chair/Director should approve the exam change request (email approval is sufficient).
    • The new exam time requested should align with the times/days listed in the exam chart.
    • Instructors should make arrangements or accommodations for any student with a conflict due to the new exam time. 
    • Final exams should not be scheduled during Success Week (week prior to final exam week).
    • Instructors may request an extended exam time if their course is 4+ credit hours, however, arrangements must be made if the extended time causes a conflict for their students. 

Students with 3+ Exams on One Day or Exam Conflicts: If a student has three or more final exams scheduled for one day, or if a student has exams that conflict or overlap, the student can request a change to one exam. Students should complete the Final Exam Conflict form in their My.IllinoisState and submit to the Registrar’s Office for verification. The verified request should be sent to the instructor to determine new exam time (if approved). 

Exams Rescheduled by Illinois State
If a situation occurs that causes the University to close (such as weather), final exams will be canceled and rescheduled for the Friday of final exams week. Same times and locations apply.
